Here at Global Windows, we have donated over £3000 worth of windows and doors to a woman whose home was badly damaged in a fire. Our donation was part of a wider community outreach programme led by Munif Zia, the principal of Hinde House Secondary School, where 56-year-old Joy Needham works as a cleaner.
On the 25th of May, Joy was awakened by thick smoke but managed to escape unharmed as the flames ravaged her home of 35 years, leaving her with nothing.
Our Managing Director Liam Hulme said “When Mr Zia called us to tell us about Joy’s home, we knew we needed to help, we were honoured to meet Joy shortly afterward, and on the 6th of August, we installed two doors and three windows into her home. Giving back to the community has always been important to us, and it was a privilege to have played a part in helping Joy get back on her feet.”
Joy, who oversaw the installation, said she was overwhelmed by the gesture.
“The team from Global Windows did a brilliant job, my new windows and doors look perfect, and have made such a big difference,” she said. “There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done on the house before I can move back in, but the kind and generous work of Global Windows has been a big step.”
The community project led by Mr Zia also included donations of materials from B&Q on Penistone Road, volunteer work by the teaching staff at Hinde House Secondary School, and over £4000 raised through a GoFundMe page set up by Joy’s son Phil Needham.
“Joy has been a cleaner at the school for over 10 years, and is much loved by all the children and staff, so when this happened to her, I knew we needed to help,” Mr Zia said. “I got in touch with a few window companies in the area, but Global Windows were the only ones keen to get on board. It was a wonderful gesture from them and has made such a difference in helping Joy rebuild her life.”
