Set in the Nottinghamshire countryside near Worksop, this beautiful stone-built cottage had bags of character — but its original windows and door, painted in a traditional dark green, were showing their age. Peeling paint, worn frames, and single-glazed panes meant the property was crying out for an upgrade that would restore its kerb appeal without losing its cottage charm. That’s exactly what our latest installation delivers: five Agate Grey/White Astragal Bar windows and two matching Agate Grey/White composite doors.
The Brief
Our customer wanted to modernise the performance of their windows and doors — better insulation, better security, and far less maintenance — while keeping the traditional look that suits a stone cottage of this style. The existing green woodwork had real character, with multi-pane glazing bars giving each window a classic cottage feel, but timber frames this age require constant upkeep and no longer offer the thermal efficiency of modern glazing.

Astragal Bar windows were the perfect solution: they replicate the look of traditional multi-pane glazing, keeping that period charm, while being built from modern, low-maintenance uPVC. The Agate Grey exterior was chosen to give the property a fresh, contemporary edge, with white interior frames keeping things bright and neutral inside.
The Installation
The scope of works includes:
- 5 x Agate Grey/White uPVC Windows — replacing the original timber-framed windows across the property, replicating their classic multi-pane look while delivering modern thermal performance and low maintenance
- 2 x Agate Grey/White Composite Doors — replacing the existing timber front and side doors with a far more secure, insulated, and weatherproof solution, finished in the same on-trend Agate Grey to tie the whole property together
Our installation team is working to the exact specification agreed with the customer, ensuring every window and door is fitted precisely and finished to our usual high standard. As with every Global Windows installation, the team is taking great care to protect this characterful stone property throughout, and will leave the site clean and tidy on completion.

Why Astragal Bar Windows?
Astragal bar windows are a popular choice for homeowners who want to preserve a traditional aesthetic — particularly on period or characterful properties — without sacrificing modern performance. Unlike true divided-light windows, the bars sit within a single sealed unit, so you get the classic look with none of the extra draughts or maintenance that come with old-style timber frames.
Why Composite Doors?
Composite doors are built from a combination of materials — typically a timber core, GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) skin, and PU foam insulation — giving them exceptional strength, security, and thermal efficiency compared to standard uPVC doors. They’re also virtually maintenance-free and available in a huge range of colours and styles, making them a popular upgrade for front and back entrances alike.
The Result
Once complete, this installation will give the Worksop property a smart, unified look, with the Agate Grey/White colourway running consistently across every window and door. The homeowner will benefit from improved security, better energy efficiency, and a home that looks as good as it performs — all while retaining the cottage character that makes this property so special.
