Know the score on Composite Doors - 11th May 2011
I am looking to invest in a new door; can you tell me the benefits of choosing a composite door?
I think it would be wise to first explain the difference between a UPVC door and a composite door. On the outside, they pretty much look the same, although a Composite door can give a much more natural look as it appears to have a wood grain running through it. The main difference is that UPVC doors are in fact hollow and filled with polystyrene. A composite door, like a traditional wooden door, has a solid wood interior so straight away you can see that you security is increased by choosing a composite door.
In terms of longevity, a composite door won’t warp or rot and they are very easy to maintain. The skin of a composite door is usually made from a GRP material. This means that in many cases it will never fade or discolour; giving you a door that can last for decades not just years.
The additional benefit is also that there are such a wide variety of styles and colours of composite doors to choose from, meaning you can get a door that matches the feel of your home without having to compromise on quality or security.
