A-Rated; Why it really matters - 8th June 2011
Question
I am looking to upgrade my windows and everyone is talking about ‘A-Rated’. What does this mean and how will it benefit my home? Also, does choosing A-Rated effect he price?
Answer
A-Rated is a way of measuring how energy efficient something is. You will have seen the stickers on household appliances with a grading on; it is the exactly the same for windows. If you are looking to change your windows I would certainly advise choosing A-rated double glazing. The main benefit, put simply, is that they keep the heat in and the cold out. A-Rated double glazing can help save you money on your energy bills- a huge benefit these days with energy prices set to increase yet again. Also, as Argon Gas is applied to the inside of A-rated windows, it actually gives better sound insulation as well.
In the same way that people keep their heating on low during winter-as it takes more energy to get the house up to a reasonable temperature from stone dead cold than it does to just keep the heating on low all day- A-Rated windows help to keep the heat where it is needed; in your home. This may not be something that you immediately think about coming into summer but this is a long term investment so all factors should be taken into account.
In terms of it affecting the price, at Global Windows we install A-rated glass in all of our products that as standard; this may not be the case with other providers so be sure to check first.
The table below is useful and actually shows you the savings you could make by switching to A-rated windows.

| Detached | A-rated Double Glazing | £247.11 | £14,153 | 40.56 |
| Semi | A-rated Double Glazing | £185.33 | £10,615 | 30.42 |
